Carpet Beetles

Carpet Beetle Control Products

Carpet beetles are a significant textile pest. It’s the larvae, also known as woolly bears because they are covered in fine hairs that can irritate your skin, that cause the damage. The adult beetles lay their eggs close to a food source that contains natural fibres like wools, cottons, silks and leathers… even dead skin or animal hair. The 2-4mm long adult carpet beetles have a mottled shell and actually feed on pollen, and are attracted to light. They lay 25-100 eggs which usually hatch within two weeks. Adults are often most active in April, May and June, whereas you tend to see the 4mm long larvae more around October, before they hibernate. Insecticides with a residual alongside dust products can be used to help alleviate a carpet beetle infestation.
