Each kit comes with 5m of spikes and a free tube of clear-drying, low modulus silicone hybrid adhesive to secure, for use in a caulking gun.
These stainless steel spikes attached to re-enforced polycarbonate base are 115mm high and 60mm wide and should be spaced no further apart than a 65mm gap if applying multiple rows – see attached technical specification. They have a market leading 63 spikes per metres and comes in 33cm strips. The spikes are heavy-duty 304 grade stainless steel and very long lasting.
Note that when using adhesive to apply spikes, you should clean down the area to be spiked first and let it dry, before applying the adhesive generously to the underside of the base of the spikes and holding down until the base sticks. Ideally the area should be primed first to maximise hold strength. Spiking should only be attempted on a dry day. If the are to be spiked holds fouling, you must wear cut and breathing protection while cleaning down. See our PPE section.
Alternatively you may be able to nail or screw the spikes down depending on the area being spiked, using the rivet holes in the base to secure. Narrow spikes are ideal for narrow ledges and window sills, tops of fences, roof ridges and flat areas of guttering among other areas.
Note: If you are going to try spiking yourself please carry out a full risk assessment of the height and conditions and access beforehand. If working off ladders, they should be footed by another person at all times when you are on the ladder.
