Bird Clean-up

Bird Clean Up

Bird fouling and pigeon fouling in particular is unpleasant stuff. It is a vector for some really very nasty pathogens and bacteria than can and do make humans very ill indeed (or worse) year in, year out if it’s accidentally ingested, if it gets into cuts, or if it’s breathed in dry. See https://britishbirdcontrol.co.uk/pigeon-guano-and-disease/ . As such, clean-up of bird fouling is not to be taken lightly and should be carried out in appropriate PPE including cut and breathing protection. Note that fouling is high in uric acid and corrodes, and that following clean-down, there is likely to be staining. Nesting birds are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act and cannot be disturbed. However, once the chicks have fledged, nests can be removed if safe to do so and the nests and areas around them should be treated with an appropriate biocide and/or insecticide to neutralise the pathogens left behind and to try and prevent the bird mites in the nests coming into the property and starting to feed on you!
