Ant Pest Control Products

The most common species of ant in the UK is the black ant. About 3-5mm in length, colonies are commonly thousands strong and the nests invariably in places where you can’t reach. With ants it really is usually about pest control rather than full eradication. Sprays and powders can be useful in targeting the worker ants you can see and keeping them away from certain areas. To target the nests themselves look at the gels. These are carried into the nests by the workers and added to the larder that feeds the colony. Patience is needed but once the colony begins feeding on the gels, they are subject to the toxins in them and numbers are reduced at source. Flying ants are not a different species, but a natural (albeit much larger) breeding stage of every ant colony. They emerge on hot, still days usually mid-summer and are only interested in breeding. Numbers can be reduced using aerosols and it’s a stage of the colony that happens every year, but is usually over within 2-3 days.
