It is very disconcerting and sometimes downright scarey if rats invade your home or business. They are fast breeders, very destructive and nocturnal and can bring in secondary issues with them like fleas. They are also known to carry diseases like Leptospirosis (often referred to as Weil’s disease), Salmonella, Listeria, Toxoplasma gondii and Hantavirus. Rats often come inside when temperatures drop outside. They are excellent climbers and are partial to the lagging in loft spaces for nesting material. If you are planning on tackling a rat issue yourself, try and work out the food source that’s attracting them to the area and see if can be cut out. They will then be hungry and more inclined to take chances.
